Senate’s Proposed Immigration Legislation

This week, our regular pod cast “Immigration Fridays” is being published early due to Congressional activity on proposed comprehensive immigration reform. While amendments will be presented and voted on today, David J. Hart and Andrea Olivos-Kah thought it useful to discuss the proposal, in broad strokes, as well as to provide some analysis of the current criticisms of the current Senate proposal. For example, they discuss the proposed two-class system that will be created by the “Y” and “Z” visas, as well as the proposal to replace our current employment-based immigration system with a radical "merit-based" point system.
